DIY Halloween Decoration Ideas

Halloween will be here soon, and that means it’s time to bring out the spooky (and non-spooky) decorations for trick-or-treaters! I have a young son at home, so I try to make sure that my decor doesn’t scare him or any child that may visit my house.

I’m a mom on a budget, so I made some inexpensive Halloween cupcakes for a party by purchasing my supplies and ingredients at Dollar Tree. I’m not always a fan of box cake mix, but you do what you have to do when you need to bake a dessert at the last minute.

Two of my favorite Halloween projects are these old pickle jars that I reused and turned into monster jars.

  • Pour the acrylic paint inside the jars, and let them dry for several hours. Use black cardstock to make the monster faces, and then adhere the paper to the jars with glue. Finally, add ribbon, straw, and other embellishments around the mouth of the jars.

The two following projects are free printables I downloaded from stampington.com.

All Hallows’ Eve Bunting

Print the free download then cut on cardstock or photo paper. Cut out each letter; then punch a hole in the top corners of printouts. Thread twine, string, or ribbon through each of the holes. Finally, hang the banner for everyone to enjoy.

Spooky Candle Silhouettes Printable

Print the download on vellum or transparency paper. Adjust the photos then trim them to fit the containers. Adhere the paper with a gel medium or secure with tape. Finally, place a flameless candle inside each container.

  • And the final three crafts are a Halloween diorama, a painted and decorated wood pumpkin, and a couple of spooky cards I made with my Cricut. These fun projects were completed one afternoon when I had some free time.

I love decorating for Halloween. This creepy holiday is one of my favorite times of the year because it makes me feel like a kid again. I have lots of memories of trick-or-treating around my hometown and wearing my costume. I can’t wait to share some new Halloween traditions with my family!
