Newspaper Canvas Art

I did a canvas art project last year that did not turn out the way I wanted it to. So, I had to find some way to reuse the canvas because I didn’t want to throw it away and waste money. I saw so many great ideas online on how to reuse an old canvas, but the projects using newspaper stood out to me the most.

These are the supplies I used:

  • Newspaper
  • Mod Podge Glue (Matte)
  • 16″x20″ Canvas
  • Chipboard Letters
  • Dollar Store Flowers
  • Krylon Black Spray Paint
  • Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
  • Foam Paint Brush

I started by cutting the newspaper into strips of various sizes. Then, I spread the Mod Podge over the canvas with a foam paint brush. Next, I placed the newspaper strips on top of the canvas and covered them with a thin coat of the Mod Podge.

While I let the canvas dry overnight, I decided to use chipboard letters to add a message and dollar store flowers to add some color. I spray painted the letters with black spray paint and hot glued them and flowers on the dried newspaper strips.

I enjoyed working on this project because it was fun and easy. It was a great opportunity to express myself, and I look forward to doing this project again using different objects.
