Floral Crate Truck

I love crates! They are perfect for organizing my supplies, and I also enjoy using them for craft projects. There are an endless amount of ideas on how to use wood crates in your home. I’ve seen some people turn them into cabinets, tables, window seats, etc.

While browsing the internet, I found the cutest project on michaels.com. It’s a step-by-step tutorial on how to turn three wooden crates into a truck. (Click here for the tutorial.) I made some adjustments to the steps based off of the supplies I had at home, so my instructions may differ a lot from the instructions you will find on the Michaels website.  This project takes over an hour to complete, especially if you decide to use big crates (lots of painting and drying time), but the result is well worth the wait. My Supply List:

• 2 Small Wooden Crates (15 in. x 10 in. x 7 1/8 in.)
• 1 Mini Wooden Crate (9.5 in. x 9 in. x 9.5 in.)
• 4 Wooden Circle Plaques (7 in.)
• Flower Bouquets
• Grey Cardstock
• White Acrylic Paint
• Plaid FolkArt® Painted Finishes Concrete Effect Paint
• Wood Glue
• Foam Brushes
• Wood Screws and Nails
• Drill
• Hammer

 

Instructions:

1. Paint the three wooden crates with the foam brush and white acrylic paint. Let dry.

2. Paint the circle plaques with the concrete finish paint. Let dry.

3. Assemble the small crates. Turn the front crate upside down. Position the back crate right side up. Place them together. Use a drill to attach the crates with wood screws.

4. Turn the mini crate upside down then attach it on top of the front crate with wood glue. Let the glue dry.

5. Turn the assembled crate truck over on its sides and nail the wooden circles in place to the bottom of the crates. The circles should resemble wheels.

6. Cut cardstock to resemble a window. Glue the paper window on the mini crate.

7. Fill the truck bed with flowers. I placed the flowers in vases before inserting them into the truck.
